White City Not To Be A City
White City is not going to become an incorporated city. At least not this year.
Petitioners failed to get enough signatures by Jackson County’s deadline Tuesday to place the issue on November’s ballot. They had 5 days to collect at least 618 signatures.
Advocates for incorporation say it would protect the city from blight. Opponents don’t like the idea of increasing property taxes. If White City were to be incorporated, resident’s property taxes would be higher.
Cindy Mohar is one of the chief backers of incorporating White City.
Cindy Mohar: “Even though we didn’t make our goal, we actually had a lot of people that were supporting us. And we’re going to have to decide where we go from here”
Incorporation can only be voted on in a primary or general election. This means the next chance for White City to incorporate will be in May 2012.
