WA Legislature Increases Incentives For In-State Movie Production

The fictional vampire saga Twilight is set in Forks, Washington. But as far as Hollywood is concerned, Vancouver and British Columbia is the best place to film the next installment in the movie series.

Washington state lawmakers have voted a big increase in filmmaking tax incentives to make the state more competitive.

Democratic Rep. Phyllis Kenney says the change will help a balanced playing field with neighboring Oregon and Canada.

Phyllis Kenney: “It’s like anything else when we compete with businesses airplanes or otherwise. We have to put the incentives out there. We have to make sure this is the best place to do business and I think we’re doing that with this bill.”

The increased filmmaking incentives won near unanimous support in both houses of the Washington legislature and now head to Governor Chris Gregoire’s desk for her approval.
