Vancouver Acid Attack Victim Admits To Hoax
The strange case of an acid burning in Vancouver has been resolved.
Bethany Storro has confessed to police that the facial burn injuries she received late last month were self-inflicted.
Vancouver Police Commander Marla Schuman says several discrepancies in Bethany’s Storro’s story had been bothering detectives.
Why has Storro been wearing sunglasses at 7:40 at night, when she claimed she’s been attacked by a black woman who threw acid in her face? And why weren’t Storro’s burns consistent with the splattering they expected?
Thursday morning, police searched the home Storro shares with her parents. The findings are still classified, but police later confronted Storro about holes in her story.
Storro ultimately told them her story had been a hoax.
Police Chief Cliff Cook declined to speculate on whether Bethany Storro would be charged for her false statements.
Cliff Cook “ That will entirely be up to the prosecuting attorney’s office. The detectives will complete their investigation, there’s still much work to do.”
Cook would not say what Storro’s motive might be for burning her own face, then lying about it.
The case monopolized police time and resources for hundreds of hours.
Cook says there’s no reason to believe at this time Storro’s parents knew of or were complicit in the ruse.
