Ken and Kelly Jacobs back yard is quite pretty most of the year. This week, it's a whirling, gurgling mass of creek water.

Ken and Kelly Jacobs' home backs right up to Mill Creek in Salem. They had eight inches of water in their living room this week.  Ken Jacobs getures to the quarter acre of brown creek water that used to be the back yard. "There was eight inches of water in the living room," he says, "but it was just that one room. Everything else is in good shape."

Kelly says they consider themselves far better off than some.

They stood in front of a U-Haul loaded with furniture and mementos, headed for a storage unit. The Red Cross was going house-to-house in the area Saturday, checking on people in the Jacobs' neighborhood.

Flooding aftermath extends out to the coast, and as far north as Portland, where the city turned off the Bull Run water supply system Saturday and went to backups. Water managers say increased sewer flows have pushed water turbidity high enough that they were concerned about sediment in the water.
