Pipe Bomb Explosion Shakes Portland Sunday, No Injuries Reported
If you were one of the hundreds of Portlanders wondering what caused a massive boom Sunday evening - it was a pipe bomb. Portland Police spokeswoman, Mary Wheat, said they found evidence Monday morning of a large device in Powers Marine Park, near the Sellwood Bridge."They think that the sound was amplified in the easterly direction due to the placement near the bank in the river and also due to low cloud cover," she said.
On a Google map set up to find out who heard the bang dozens of residents commented. One said it sounded like a dump truck dropping a dumpster - but louder.
Others talked about homes shaking, windows rattling and startled pets.Wheat said they had reports of a similar boom on March 15th, but don't know if the two incidents are linked.
