Tuesday Is Deadline For Adams Recall Petitioners
The group pushing to recall Portland Mayor Sam Adams has until the end of the day Tuesday to submit signatures, and force an election this summer. Rob Manning reports.
Adams was a recall target once before, after he admitted to lying about having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old legislative intern.
Adams vehemently denied the affair when he campaigned for mayor, but admitted to it, after being elected.
That first recall effort failed to collect enough signatures. This time, recall supporters are paying some of their signature gatherers.
Volunteer organizer, Theresa McGuire says she hopes the last few days will get the campaign to the 32,000 signatures needed to get the recall on the ballot.
Theresa McGuire: “But unfortunately it’s going to be close once again. You know, I think we’re going to make it, but I don’t know – we just need everyone to pitch in and help out.”
If signatures are turned in for a recall effort, the city auditor would have ten days to verify them.
