Tram Running Again After Tune Up
The Portland Aerial Tram is up and running again Tuesday after its first major maintenance work.
The 7500 foot main haul rope had stretched -- as expected -- over the last eight months. It needed to be shortened by about 25 feet.
Michael Brooks, with OHSU, says they also had to replace a bearing that had been causing a loud grinding sound.
Michael Brooks: "We have a couple of neighbors report that same exact squeaking and basically when they did this maintenance I believe they took care of that as well."
Now the tram’s haul rope has been stretched, Brooks says they don’t expect to have to have it shortened again -- at least for another decade.
