Toxic Algae Advisory Lifted At Diamond Lake
Health authorities have lifted a toxic algae advisory at Diamond Lake. The advisory began July 15.
Bonnie Widerburg is a public health educator with Oregon Public Health. She says not all bodies of water in Oregon are monitored for harmful algae.
Bonnie Widerburg: “So if you go out and recreate a lot, go into other water bodies that aren’t overseen, you might want to check the water out before you go in. if there’s a suspicious scum or a frothiness or a blue-green green in the water, it might be best to stay out.”
Widerburg says the department expects to have similar levels of algae as last year -- meaning about two more advisories. Warnings for algae toxins have been rising in recent years.
