A Town Without Cell Phones, 'Cliques'

Imagine a place where kids can't use cell phones because there is no service, and their school is so small, there aren't any "cliques." That place is Monument, Oregon, where Think Out Loud visited this week.

In Monument, the superintendent is also the principal, backup bus driver and will soon be the track coach.

According to the 2010 census, there are only 128 residents -- and they must make accommodations to live there, like driving long distance for doctor's appointments or a trip to the grocery store.

Think Out Loud's Interactive Producer John Rosman has spent the week in Monument where he's met almost everyone and shares these pictures of people and places.

You can also view them on our Our Town series page where you can also comment on the show and see an interactive map.
