Boeing and the leaders of its second-largest union reached a tentative agreement Friday. If accepted, it will avert another strike at the aircraft manufacturer.

Boeing machinists walked out for eight-weeks on September 2nd.

But now, the union representing 21,000 engineers, scientists and technical workers, is recommending members accept a proposed four-year agreement.

About 550 of the affected workers are in Oregon, Utah and California; the rest are in the Seattle area.

Details of the settlement won’t be released until Friday evening, but engineers were asking for raises of 10 percent annually, more vacation days, higher overtime rates, and the restoration of some medical benefits.

Boeing had demanded the ability to outsource, so it could stay competitive; and that the contract be affordable in the event of a slowdown.
