Tea Party protestors gather outside the Washington capitol in Olympia.
Tea Party activists protested “tax day” at rallies throughout the Northwest. In Olympia Thursday, an estimated 3,000 people gathered on the steps of the capitol. They're upset that Democratic Governor Chris Gregoire supported new taxes this year, even though she ran on a no-new-taxes platform in 2008. The crowd sang a goodbye song in protest.
“Na-na-na-na, Na-na-na-na, hey Christine goodbye. Give yourselves a hand everybody. I like audience participation.”

Besides taxes, Tea Party activists are angry about other issues, including: the health care overhaul, the national debt and cap-and-trade legislation. In Salem, more than 1,000 people gathered in front of the state capitol building. Speakers had harsh words for state lawmakers who voted in favor of a pair of tax increases that voters approved in January. Several Republican candidates for statewide office appeared at the rally.
