Tax Deadlock Breaking At Wash. State Capitol
The weeks-long deadlock in Olympia over what taxes to raise to balance the state budget appears close to resolution. Top Democrats from the Washington House and Senate met with the governor Wednesday to go over a tentative deal. The leaders avoided reporters after the meeting in order to brief their party rank-and-file first.Earlier in the day, Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown said a sales-tax increase is no longer part of the compromise tax plan being considered.
