Tax Amnesty Deadline Looms
Taxpayers who're hoping to take advantage of Oregon's first ever tax amnesty program, have until Thursday to complete an application. As Kristian Foden-Vencil reports.
The 2009 Oregon legislature passed the amnesty to try to bring more money into state coffers -- and to give delinquent taxpayers a chance to come clean.
It started last month, but the deadline to file an application is this week. Rosemary Hardin of the Oregon Department of Revenue says it's been a popular program.
Rosemary Hardin: "So far, as of November 9th, which is the most current data that I have, we've received 14-hundred applications and we've have approved about 95 percent of those."
That's brought in more than $10 million. And that figure doesn't include taxpayers who are going onto payment plans because they owe so much.
Not everyone qualifies for the amnesty.
