Supporters And Critics Organize Events Around Adams
Supporters and critics of Portland Mayor Sam Adams are lining up and ready to rally. April Baer reports that several demonstrations are in the works.
A number of Portlanders say that while they're not happy with Adams' behavior, they don't believe he should resign.
Portland resident Holly Teal has organized a rally Friday at City Hall at 5:30p.m.
Columnist and Seattle native Dan Savage will speak at the rally. He's a well-known voice on sexuality and gay rights.
Portland musician Thomas Lauderdale has also been organizing behind the scenes. It's not clear if he'll be organizing a separate event.
A Facebook page has been created, called "A Vote of Confidence for Sam Adams," which has about 850 members so far.
A number of groups are also organizing in favor of a resignation.
A rally is planned at 10 a.m. Friday at Portland City Hall. Organizer Rick Christman says daily protests will continue until Adams steps down.
Apparently both groups are grass roots, and at this point, not tied to Adams or any political opponents.
A website has also started eliciting support for a mayoral recall.
