Students Registering For Upcoming Special Election
More than 14,000 students around Oregon have registered to vote in the upcoming election on tax measures 66 and 67. Kristian Foden-Vencil reports.
Until recently, Oregon's University System blocked students from running voter-registration efforts in school building classrooms. Drives were held outside in walkways and common areas. But universities recently granted students access.

As per the comment below, the spelling of guerrilla has been changed. It originally was written as gorilla. OPB regrets the error. |
Secretary of State, Kate Brown, welcomed the move and took part this week in what's become known as a guerrilla rap.
Kate Brown: "We did a few guerrilla raps at the University of Oregon on Tuesday. It was wonderful. With the support of professors and instructors we were able to walk in on the outset of the classes, provide voter registration to every student in the class and talk a little bit about it was so important for people to register."
Brown and the Oregon Student Association that ran the registration effort, stress they don't tell people how to vote.
But few students make more than $125,000 a year, or run businesses, so their votes might skew in favor of the two measures -- especially since higher tuitions are one way the legislature could increase revenues if the measures fail.
