Studded Tire Season Ends Soon
If you're putting together your “to-do” list this weekend, you might want to make a note to remove your studded tires. Drivers in both Oregon and Washington have to make the switch back to regular tires by the end of the day on Wednesday. Officials have extended the deadline in years when wintry weather is in the forecast. But Dave Thompson, with the Oregon Department of Transportation, said that won't happen this year. “Our forecast right now, at least, looks like there's no issues so we gave the notice early so people would have time to schedule getting their tires off at a convenient time rather than at the last second," he said.Oregon drivers who don't get around to removing studded tires in time face a $190 fine. The penalty in Washington is $124. Idaho drivers have until the end of April to switch.© 2010 Northwest News Network
