Strongest Voter Turnout In Clatsop County For CD1 Race
Less than 37 percent of voters have cast their ballots in the contest between Democrat Suzanne Bonamici and Republican Rob Cornilles.
The strongest turnout so far in the First District race is in Clatsop County, where more than 41 percent of voters have weighed in. But Clatsop has the fewest voters of any of the district's counties. More than half the district's voters are in Washington County, where Mickie Kawai manages elections. She's seeing turnout at 35 percent.
Kawai explains, "This is a special type of an election. I would probably correlate this with a non-presidential general election, which we generally get approximately 60 to 65 percent."
In both Washington County and the First District section of Multnomah County, Republicans have turned out more faithfully than Democrats. But Democrats hold a registration edge, and so far, Republican turnout hasn't overcome that disparity.
Election officials say it's too late to mail in a ballot -- and voters should instead cast ballots at drop sites.
