Federal Grant Will Help Daimler Develop Energy Efficient Trucks
Daimler Trucks North America Monday won a $40 million stimulus grant from the federal government. Ryan Knutson reports.
U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced that Daimler will get the largest portion of a $187 million investment in the development of more energy efficient trucks.
The Portland-based manufacturer will receive another $40 million match from private investors.
Chu said the investments allow Daimler to research and develop smaller engines, electrification systems for oil and water pumps, waste-heat recovery systems, aerodynamics and hybridization.
Steven Chu: “This is a great example of the recovery act at work. We’re creating jobs now while laying the groundwork for a clean energy economy.”
The grant is expected to create more than 80 Oregon jobs at Daimler this year.
