Stimulus Money To Improve Housing For Siletz Tribe

Oregon's Siletz Tribe is going to receive almost $3 million in federal stimulus money.  The funds are meant to improve tribal housing and to stimulate community development.

The tribe’s General Manager Brenda Bremner says the money is urgently needed.

Brenda Bremner: "We have a number of tribal member families, you know low income families, who arein need of suitable housing, either they're living  in housing that is less than adequate or they're actually homeless and so we're able to service those individuals and be able to provide additional housing for those members."

Bremner says the tribe plans to add affordable rental units in Lincoln City and Siletz to house 16 tribal families.

Money from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development is also going to seven Washington tribes.  They'll share about $14 million.
