Sternwheeler Willamette Queen Runs Aground, All Passengers Safe
The sternwheeler, Willamette Queen, ran aground Sunday. Coast Guard Ensign, Greg Landosky says the 22 people who were on board, are okay.
Greg Landosky: "It seemed like the boat got caught in an under current. They dropped anchor. Salem Fire Department and the Sheriff's Department helped get the passengers and crew off. They left the captain and one crew member on board. There's been no apparent damage to the ship and there's no apparent pollution at this time."
A private contractor has been hired to try to tow the sternwheeler back to its dock in Salem.
A marine investigator and inspector are looking into the grounding.
