State Study Finds Bars Following No Smoking Law
Most Oregon bars are following the state’s new non-smoking law that went into effect this year.
The state released a study Tuesday that found the majority of bars and bowling alleys are in compliance with the Smokefree Workplace Law.
Cathryn Cushing is a spokeswoman for the state’s Tobacco Prevention and Education Program.
She says investigators randomly surveyed 155 bars around the state – and found no smoking.
Cathryn Cushing: “No one was observed smoking inside, so that’s the first thing. Not everyone had all their signs up, but everybody had some signs up. And there were a few violations of the 10-foot rule which requires no smoking within 10 feet of doors, windows, and ventilation intakes.”
Complaints of smoking violations have dropped since the beginning of the year, Cushing says.
The law took effect on January 1 of this year.
