State Police Arrest Suspect In Coast Run Incident

Oregon State Police have arrested the driver of the car believed responsible for injuring a high school runner from Portland Friday night.

Rainier-area 20 year-old Chrystal Meier faces arraignment later Monday in Multnomah County Court.

Police say that a blue four-door hit 18-year-old Lincoln High senior Chelsea Caskey as she was running her leg of the Portland-to-Coast High School challenge, Friday night.

As of Sunday evening, Caskey was in a Portland intensive care unit in serious condition.

Greg Hastings is the spokesman for the Oregon State Police, which led the investigation. He says both young women were hospitalized immediately.

Greg Hastings: “Chelsea was in very serious condition. Chrystal Meier had very minor injuries and she was held for observation and evaluation. Upon her release from the hospital, she met with our investigating trooper at Rainier police department, and she was taken into custody on three different charges.”

Those charges are assault in the second degree, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Meier could face jail time or heavy fines if convicted.
