Police say a 23-year old Portland woman died Monday after falling from a popular hiking trail along the Columbia River Gorge. As Kristian Foden-Vencil reports, it's the second death at Eagle Creek in the last three weeks.

Authorities say they received a 911 call at about 6 o’clock Monday evening. A man said his companion had fallen off a cliff.

A rescue team found Rhonda Casto’s body 100 feet below the path. Another woman, Maureen Gamache, is believed to have fallen to her death from the same trail three weeks ago.

But Stan Hinatsu, of the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area, says they’re not going to put up any warning signs.

Stan Hinatsu: “Folks just need to be conscious when they’re out in the woods hiking on a trail that it’s a little bit different than walking on a sidewalk.”

Eagle Creek is a popular trail near Multnomah Falls. It has several steep drop-offs and gets icy during the colder months.
