Search Continues For Northwest Men Missing Off Alaska Coast
The search continues this morning (today/Friday) for two crew members of a fishing boat that capsized in frigid waters off Alaska, Wednesday. As Rob Manning reports, five men with Northwest ties are among those who perished.
The Seattle Times is reporting that the boat lost steerage and rolled early Wednesday morning, forcing the 11-member crew into lifeboats and survival suits. The four survivors were reportedly rescued 17 hours later. They were in a lifeboat and wearing suits. The dead were found in survival suits, but were not in a boat. The Seattle-based Katmai fishing company has confirmed that three crew members with Oregon ties are among the dead. They’re Cedric Smith and Glenn Harper of Portland and Fuli Lemusu of Salem. Washingtonians, Jake Gilman and Joshua Longuerrero, were the other two who died.
One of the four survivors is from Washington - Adam Foster; the others are from Alaska and Massachusetts. The two men still missing are from Montana and Washington, according to Katmai officials.
