Oregon School Boards Association Fires Director

The Oregon School Boards Association has fired its director.

School board members representing diverse regions of Oregon make up the OSBA’s supervising board. They agreed over the weekend to fire director, Kevin McCann, with cause.

That means McCann is gone after an eight-year tenure, and no longer collecting his $135,000 annual salary.

A statement from board members indicated they wanted to "reassert" OSBA's leadership.

OSBA directed questions to acting spokesman, Norm Eder.

"It's fair to say that the board, after several months of very careful thought, decided that it needed fresh leadership to carry its mission into the future," Eder said.

Almost a year and a half ago, two OSBA board members left the organization, alleging a lack of urgency in dealing with the problems facing Oregon schools.

The OSBA has also dismissed McCann's deputy director, Dori Brattain.
