Rossi Plans to Run Against Murray For Washington Senate Seat
Washington state Republican Dino Rossi plans to announce this week he's running for the U-S Senate. That's according to a GOP source in Washington, D.C. who spoke with our Austin Jenkins today Monday.Rossi has been coy for weeks about whether he'll run against incumbent Democratic Senator Patty Murray. But now it appears he's made the decision to get into the race. Rossi is in the process of interviewing and hiring a campaign staff. That's according to a Republican official in D.C. who was not authorized to speak on behalf of the campaign. The official announcement is expected Wednesday. Rossi enjoys strong statewide name recognition after running twice unsuccessfully for governor against Chris Gregoire. More recently polls have shown him competitive with Murray, an 18-year veteran of the Senate. In fact, a new University of Washington public opinion survey shows Rossi within four points of Murray with about 15-percent of voters undecided. It's late to get into the race. The primary election is in three months and the November election is just five months away. Several other Republicans have already been campaigning for the nomination.© 2010 Northwest News Network
