Multnomah County Sheriff, Bernie Giusto, knew about the sexual abuse of a minor by Neil Goldschmidt earlier than he has admitted. That’s according to a draft report released Monday. Kristian Foden-Vencil reports.

The Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training released the document after The Portland Tribune and The Oregonian filed freedom of information requests.

The draft report found that three out of 24 allegations made against Giusto have merit.  And it suggests that Giusto probably did violate police standards.

Two allegations revolve around Portland businessman, Jim Jeddeloh, and whether Giusto acted properly in trying to get him a concealed handgun license.

The third involves when Giusto knew Goldschmidt had sexually abused a 14-year-old girl in the 1970’s.

A spokesman for Giusto says he will not comment on an on-going investigation.

The policy committee will get a final version of the report soon. It will meet in February and could pull Giusto’s police certification. Giusto could appeal the ruling.
