Redmond Schools' Superintendent Resigning

Redmond’s noted school superintendent is resigning. In the last few years, Vicki Fleming helped pass a major construction bond, but she also managed deep budget cuts by paring back to a four-day school week.

Fleming also helped lead the state’s effort to win federal Race to the Top funds, which could result in Oregon landing up to $175 million.

The 55 year-old Fleming says she’ll stay in Redmond through the school year but isn’t sure where she’ll go after that.

Vicki Fleming: “I have a list of everything possible that goes from international schools to community colleges to school district work to foundation work. I’m just going to take some time to see what sounds like fun and where I can continue to contribute to the service of children in some way.”

The outgoing superintendent presided over increases in achievement scores, but also the controversial closure of an alternative school.

Fleming says she’s proudest of her efforts to improve what she calls the “teaching and learning infrastructure” in Redmond’s schools.
