Probation Ordered For Girl Shot By Police With Beanbag
Multnomah County Judge Paula Kurshner ruled Wednesday that a girl whom police shot with a beanbag round must spend a year on probation. The girl is not being named because of her age. She's 12. She must also do 24 hours of community service for resisting arrest and for interfering with public transportation.A video of the scuffle between the girl and two Portland police officers was posted online. Police Chief Rosie Sizer called it troubling. Police Commissioner Dan Saltzman called for the suspension of the officer who fired the round - Christopher Humphreys. That suspension led to the police union marching on City Hall. Humphrey's suspension was later lifted. The police arrested the girl after seeing her on a MAX train. She had been excluded from public transportation.© 2010 OPB
