Portlanders Keep An Eye On Guantanamo Detainees' Cases
Portland, OR December 3, 2007 10:23 a.m.
Since 2001, the United States has kept men accused of terrorism at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. For most of us, this fact hasn't changed life.
David Naimon and some of his friends found themselves moved to do something. They started looking carefully at the details of one man's case, and went on to form Project Hamad -- a website and activist movement devoted to getting attention for the cases of detainees who may be innocent.
Adel Hamad was a Sudanese man doing relief work in a hospital worker in Afghanistan.
David Naimon spoke with April Baer about about Adel Hamad's case.

Later this week, the Supreme Court will hear a case that tests whether Guantanamo detainees are covered by the concept of habeas corpus. Here's a story from NPR, filed earlier this year, when the justices decided to hear the case.
And here's a quick summary from Bloomberg News service about what to expect in Wednesday's Supreme Court arguments.
