Portland Police Seeking Witnesses To Lloyd Center Mall Shooting
Police in Portland are calling for witnesses to a gang-related shooting at the Lloyd Center Mall Wednesday.Police say mall security flagged officers down at about 6:30 -- because a large group of people were fighting inside. Bureau spokeswoman Mary Wheat, said there were also reports of gunshots. "Fortunately our Gang Team officers were working the Holladay Park area anyway, just to be on top of any potential violence during Spring Break. They were able to get to the fight and pursue some individuals who were attempting to flee the scene. They were able to recover two guns and they actually arrested and charged someone with one count of attempted murder," she said.That suspect is 17-years-old. He was located later in the evening. A 16-year-old has also been detained and charged with one count of rioting. There have been a number of gang-related incidents in Portland over the last few weeks. The police don't know yet if the shooting at the mall is directly related.© 2010 OPB
