Little Known About Portland Shooting Victim
Portland Police have identified the man shot during a traffic stop this week. April Baer reports.
The Police Bureau has identified the 25-year-old man as Keaton Dupree Otis.
He was pulled over near Lloyd Center late in the day Wednesday. Otis died after a dust-up with officers that ended in a hail of bullets according to police reports.
Officers James Defrain and Ryan Foote pulled Otis over for what they called irregular driving. Police accounts characterize Otis as belligerent, yelling at the officers, and refusing to get out of the car.
Witnesses heard multiple gunshots. The Bureau’s early investigation concludes that Otis shot first. A wider probe into the incident is still underway.
The Oregonian reports that Otis is the son of a North Portland couple, but little is known about him beyond that.
Portland Officer Christopher Burley is still recovering from gunshot wounds he received during the incident.
