Portland Police Identify Man Shot In Traffic Stop
Portland Police have identified the young man shot in a traffic stop Wednesday evening as 25-year old Keaton Dupree Otis. April Baer reports.
Otis is believed to have little record of interactions with the police. He was pulled over near Portland’s Lloyd Center, an area in which police anti-gang patrols have been active.
The police account says Otis didn’t do as officers asked him, and yelled at them. But some members of the community still have unanswered questions about how the exchange ended up in a hail of bullets.
Reverend LeRoy Haynes of the Albina Ministerial Alliance says he raised these questions at a meeting with Mayor Sam Adams Thursday.
Rev. LeRoy Haynes: "Why he was stopped in the first place, how did the struggle start, did the officer put himself into the car?"
Haynes says Adams was receptive to finding answers. A coroner’s report may provide more information, but it's not clear when that might be ready.
This shooting is the third involving a Portland police officer within five months.
