Portland Police Chief Issues Statement On Al Gore Case
Portland Police Chief Mike Reese issued a statement today about why the bureau re-opened its investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against former Vice President Al Gore.
Chief Reese's statement says that there should have been what he calls "command level review" of the matter when it came up in 2009. He says because of that oversight, the bureau decided to re-open in the investigation.
Massage therapist Molly Hagerty first contacted the police in 2006 to accuse Gore of sexual misconduct. According to the police bureau, the case was cleared because of a lack of cooperation on Hagerty's part.
In 2009, Hagerty again contacted the police, gave a statement and answered questions. The Police Bureau did not take further action with the case.
Chief Reese's statement today says the bureau has started what will be a thorough investigation.
A spokeswoman for Gore has issued a denial of any sexual misconduct by the former vice-president.
