Portland's police chief and mayor have proposed disciplinary actions to the officers involved in the fatal shooting of Aaron Campbell. As Kristian Foden-Vencil reports, the suggested punishments are confidential for now.

Campbell was shot and killed in January, after relatives called police for a welfare check.

Police chief Mike Reese and Mayor Sam Adams aren't saying what their recommended punishments are. Instead, Adams says, they're giving officers another chance to present their side of the story.

Sam Adams: "They have 30 days to meet with us and provide information that they think mitigates our proposed discipline. And then after that we make our final determination about discipline."

Chief Reese released a statement saying he believes that "significant policy violations" did occur.

The Portland Police Union issued its own statement indicating that the city has recommended firing officer Ron Frashour. He’s the policeman who fired the fatal shot.

The union says trust among rank-and-file officers for the city's review policies has all but disappeared. And that has "deeply compromised" public safety.
