Poll Finds Oregonians Pessimistic About Economic Recovery
Oregonians are pessimistic about the economic recovery, according to a poll released Wednesday by OPB, Fox 12 and The Portland Tribune. Krisitan Foden-Vencil reports.
In a telephone survey of 600 Oregonians over the weekend, 43 percent said the state is headed in the wrong direction. 56 percent say the economic recovery will be weak.
Adam Davis, with Davis, Hibbitts and Midghall, conducted the poll.
Adam Davis: "We have a lot of Oregonians right now that feel that this recovery has yet to create jobs. But they feel that it will soon."
Respondents felt that technology companies, green jobs and the medical field will lead the state out of the recession.
Only 5 percent felt Oregon's traditional industries -- timber and agriculture -- will lead the state in job creation.
There was also a big split between urban and rural Oregonians. People in the metro areas were more optimistic.
Details on what politicians need to do to help the state recover will be released Thursday.
