Several high-profile police shootings have happened in Portland over the last few years. This week, the city took action in one of them -- officer Ron Frashour was fired for killing Aaron Campbell in January.

But what happens to people involved in a police shooting, after all the legal issues are resolved? What are the long-term consequences?

To get some perspective, Kristian Foden-Vencil talked to people about the  shooting of Joyce Staudenmeier in Portland six years ago.

Staudenmeier was schizophrenic. And when she held a care worker at knife point, Officer Paul Steigleder shot and killed her.

A grand jury investigated but didn't indict anyone. But for the officer, and for case worker Martha Spiers, the memories of that day are still painfully fresh.
