Police Identify Victim In Downtown Shooting
Police have identified a young man who was shot close to Portland’s waterfront over the weekend.
Police haven’t said what Andre Dupree Payton was doing downtown early Sunday morning. He was shot at Northwest 2nd and Couch, and died after being taken to OHSU for treatment.
No one’s been arrested for the shooting, and police say they need to talk to more people.
The shooting happened in a big crowd. It was right around closing time for the cluster of bars in that part of Old Town.
Gang Enforcement detectives have joined Homicide in the investigation.
Police have also noted that about half-an-hour after Payton was shot, a 23-year-old man walked into Legacy Emanuel Hospital with a gunshot wound. He was treated and released.
Police aren’t saying whether the man was injured in the same shooting, but they’re looking into it.
Detectives are asking anyone who saw what happened to contact the Police Bureau.
Payton was nineteen years old. Published reports say he was a graduate of Portland’s Grant High School.
