Police Arrest Suspect After Bullets Hit NE Portland School
Police have made an arrest in relation to gunshots fired this morning through a window at Sacajawea School in Northeast Portland.
The suspect was arrested near 73rd and Killingsworth, just blocks away from the school.
Matt Shelby of Portland Public Schools says police found the man carrying a 45 caliber Thompson semi-automatic machine gun.
Matt Shelby: "At the time the bullets came through the window there was a staff member near the classroom. There were no students in the classroom. No one was hurt. The only damage to the school was at the window. So we don't believe at this time that the school was an intended target."
The school went into lockout mode after teachers called 911. This meant the school went on operating with the doors locked.
But Shelby says not many students and teachers were in the building.
