Pet Food Bank Loses Thousands of Pounds of Food

An emergency pet food bank lost thousands of pounds of food this week due to a leaky roof. The Pongo Fund is a non-profit organization that provides pet food to the animals of families who can't afford it. Heavy rains on Tuesday leaked into the warehouse where food is stored and ruined thousands of pounds of recently purchased cat food. Larry Chusid is the Founder and Executive Director of The Pongo Fund.

“The community response has already been awesome. Immediately after this occurred, people started to hear about it, we were the very fortunate recipients of many donations,” said Chusid.Chusid says that the fund is about half way to covering the dollar value of the ruined food. He says that without the Pongo Fund, food boxes intended for people end up becoming pet food.  Chusid says the best donations are money, because it’s used to buy pet food at cost from the organization’s partners.
