One of the Northwest's iconic national park lodges has reopened after being closed for two years for renovations.

The foundation and structural supports of the Paradise Inn at Mount Rainier National Park received major upgrades.

Sales manager Pam Newlun says the renovation retained – or even enhanced – the inn’s historic character.

Pam Newlun: “Guests that come back that have been coming and visiting us for many years, they’re going to think, ‘I’m home again. It looks just like what I remember.’”

The renovation cost 23 million taxpayer dollars.

The Paradise Inn belongs to the park service and is operated by a private contractor.  It originally opened in 1917.

Newlun says the famous alpine meadows around Paradise are currently under about 200 inches of snow.
