OSU Ocean Researcher Wins Major International Prize
An Oregon State University professor has won one of the richest prizes in science.
Jane Lubchenco is one of this year’s recipients of the Zayed Prize, sponsored by the ruler of Dubai.
It’s worth $150,000. Lubchenco is currently traveling in Europe and couldn’t be immediately reached. But her colleague, OSU Science Dean Sherman Bloomer, says it’s a big honor.
Sherman Bloomer: “The applicants for this prize are all the scientists on the planet. So it’s not a regional award. It’s looking at who has made the most impact anywhere on the globe.”
Bloomer says Lubchenco is a marine biologist who studies food production in the ocean and also the impact of climate change on oceans.
