Oregon, Washington Extend Studded Tire Season, Again
Oregon and Washington are extending the deadline for removing studded snow tires. Drivers in both states have an extra six days, with the deadline now set for midnight April 17th.This is the second time this year that both states have extended the deadline because snow is forecast for some areas. Sisters Mayor Lon Kellstrom said the extensions are helpful for drivers who need to travel over the Cascades. "I think it was probably a wise decision on their part. We've gotten these late or early spring snowstorms. Not every year. But they seem to have been more frequent. And I think it's a real help for people who have to go over the pass," he said.Oregon drivers caught with studded tires after the new deadline face a $190 fine. The penalty in Washington is $124.© 2010 OPB
