Oregon State Hospital Director Resigns

Oregon State Hospital Superintendent Roy Orr has resigned after just two years on the job. The announcement came as the state released a critical report. It concluded the mental hospital in Salem failed to provide adequate care and treatment for a patient. An investigation into the death of Moises Perez last October found that his overall hospital care was negligent. The State Hospital has been the subject of criticism for years. Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney called the report “disturbing.” “This idea that a single person or a single director, a single leader can do it all is probably is some ways where we probably made some mistakes. But I'm confident that we+re making strides. But I'm discouraged today because this is a setback," he said.A statement the Department of Human Services included few details and no direct explanation for the superintendent's resignation. Deputy state hospital Superintendent Nena Strickland was named as interim head of the facility.
