Oregon Economy – A Lesson For The U.S.?
We'll get October unemployment figures for Oregon Monday.
Whatever they are, they come under the shadow of a national picture with an unemployment rate at more than 10% for the first time since 1983.
Here in Oregon, our unemployment rate has been in double-digits since February, so we might have some wisdom for the rest of the country.
For a closer look at how Oregon's experience might be instructive, we spoke with Patrick Emerson. He an economics professor at Oregon State. He also writes the Oregon Economics blog.
Emerson says extended high unemployment has delivered a one-two punch to Oregon's housing market.
