Oregon Delegates Emotional At Convention
Oregon Democrats say they are eager to watch Senator Barack Obama speak Thursday night at the outdoor football stadium in Denver. Aside from anticipating the speech itself, they say their seats can't be any worse than they've been in the indoor convention venue. Ethan Lindsey reports.
Oregon's nosebleed seats were behind those of Guam.
But that didn't stop the 64 delegates from getting loud after Hillary Clinton stopped the roll call vote to nominate Barack Obama.
That meant Senator Ron Wyden didn't get to speak to the crowd, but he had his state bragging statement ready.
Ron Wyden: “As you can see, I have an incredibly pumped, excited delegation behind us. We are the green energy capital of the world. And we had the biggest rally during the entire campaign season right in our home state.”
After the nomination, President Bill Clinton spoke to the crowd. Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury told NPR that he teared up.
Bill Bradbury: “I was the chair of the Bill Clinton campaign in Oregon in 1992 and 1996, and I have watched Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton do everything in their power to convince this convention to vote for Barack Obama.”
