Promise King

An Oregon civil rights organization is doing something controversial with its scholarship money.

The Oregon League of Minority Voters is extending scholarships to white students, in the hopes that they will become more engaged in civil rights during their lives.

The group says it’s the first time white students have been targeted for scholarship money is this way.

Promise King is the Executive Director of the Oregon League of Minority Voters.

He says the group has gotten around 40 applications for its “whites only” scholarships.  The two recipients will be announced in May.
