Oregon Attorney General John Kroger has agreed to handle an investigation into the Portland mayor's relationship with a younger man. April Baer reports.

Since Sam Adams came forward admitting a past sexual relationship with an eighteen year old, Beau Breedlove, other City Hall officials have called for an investigation.

Several city and county agencies might be in a position to investigate, but  took a pass.

The mayor determines the Portland Police Bureau's budget, and the Multnomah County District Attorney's office says a more independent body should take the job.

Thus it falls to Oregon's new Attorney General, John Kroger.

Kroger's office issued a brief statement saying it would undertake the inquiry, and that all persons are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Kroger's office  offered no other details.

The investigation could take several paths.

It might tackle the veracity of Adams' claim that his sexual relationship with Breedlove  only began after Breedlove turned 18, the age of consent.

It might also look into how Adams attempted to conceal the matter.
