Oregon AG Hires Experienced Domestic Violence Prosecutor
The Oregon attorney general has hired an experienced domestic violence prosecutor, Erin Greenawald. Domestic violence in Oregon has killed nine people so far this year and 22 people last year. That’s up from an average of 18 deaths. Greenawald will help local district attorneys with complex cases. She’s also responsible for raising awareness of domestic violence and training prosecutors and law enforcement. Greenawald says that many victims of domestic violence feel pressure not to cooperate with an investigation:Greenwald: “Giving prosecution and law enforcement the tools to investigate and prosecute cases without the cooperation of the victim is something we’re really going to focus on.”Greenawald is a prosecutor in Yamhill County. She’ll start working for the attorney general next Monday. The position is funded by a federal grant.© 2010 OPB
