OLCC Looks To Change Statute On Home Brewing
The Oregon Liquor Control Commission says it's time to change the law on home brewing. But the change won't happen in time to save this summer's homemade beer competitions.
The state Department of Justice determined earlier this month that home brewers could not take their products outside their homes without a license. Oregon brewers and winemakers who were looking forward to upcoming competitions are upset.
But the OLCC says the only way to fix the problem is to change the statute.
Christie Scott is with the OLCC. She says the agency is already working to get the law changed.
Christie Scott: "It's just makes common sense to get it changed. The homebrewers haven't been a public safety issue for us. So there's no reason for us to advocate against getting this law changed."
The OLCC is optimistic the law will be changed in the next legislative session that begins in January.
